Once a month we, the online HDL cohort, participate in "office hours."  As we all sit down in front of our computers across North America, it is like we all just walked into a coffee shop. We start catching up like old friends; sharing challenges and celebrations in our lives.

These conversations are some of my highlights of the semester. During one of these conversations we sat down with the facilitator of our Refugee and Forced Migration course, Matt Soerens. We started our catching up, as we typically do, then the conversation touched briefly on our assignments and then led quickly to an in-depth conversation of what was occurring at the Southern border of the US.

Though we are separated by thousands of miles, we have authentic conversations about difficult topics, almost as if we are in person.
