Christians and Cultural Difference
Understanding cultural differences is a basic life skill for all of us, not just for missionaries or world travelers. In this lecture, Dr. David Smith will examine how Christians have been rethinking their relationship to others and otherness, why we reach across cultural lines, and why we should.
David Smith, Ph.D. is Director of the Kuyers Institute for Christian Teaching and Learning at Calvin College and Director of Graduate Studies in Education at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
A native of England, he has also lived and taught in Germany and travels widely working with Christian educators in various countries.
He serves as Senior Editor of the International Journal of Christianity and Education. He is the author of a number of widely-admired books, including The Gift of the Stranger and Learning from the Stranger: Christian Faith and Cultural Diversity. His most recent books are Teaching and Christian Imagination (with Susan Felch) and Christians and Cultural Difference (with Pennylyn Dykstra-Pruim).
