Hannah Hayes - Jumping into Life at Wheaton

By: Kellie Mitchell

“Jump in feet first!” is the advice that I was given when I decided to transfer from a small liberal arts college in Michigan to Wheaton. I have 12 Wheaton alumni in my family, but I felt that God was calling me outside of my comfort zone for my first two years of college. When I decided to transfer, I was nervous about starting over in a new place and making new friends. Right away, I felt at home at Wheaton. Although the size and type of my previous college were similar to Wheaton, what stood out to me was the vibrant Christ-centered community. With the advice to be willing to jump in and try new things ringing in my ears, I joined many different groups and clubs:  Honduras Project, a student-led ministry that raises money to build water systems in the most rural regions of Honduras; Art editor for Kodon, the student magazine; Resident Assistant (RA); Lyric Opera of Chicago ambassador; Student Representative for Presidents Art Commission; and member of the local church choir. All these incredible experiences, traveling to Honduras, working in the great city of Chicago, and more were opportunities that came from being at Wheaton. I had a wonderful experience transferring to Wheaton, I’m so thankful for the advice to not hold back, to dive in to new experiences, and to meet new people.
