Grace Zheng - The Value of Faith and Learning

By: Grace Zheng '22

Wheaton encourages each student to pursue his/her calling to advance Christ’s work for His kingdom. At Wheaton, I have been encouraged to integrate my faith and learning in and out of classrooms so I can make an impact in the world.

When I entered Wheaton, I was astounded by the open-ended discussions and group projects that occurred in the classroom. I never went to a public or private school that integrated Christian faith and learning in their classes and curriculum. Wheaton classroom interactions helped me develop communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills that shaped my Christian worldview. In addition, they prepared me for the vocational experiences I had.

As an elementary education major, I tutored and teacher-aided in various elementary schools. My professors helped me integrate my liberal arts education with professional experience. They have been preparing me for my future vocation as an elementary school teacher. Through teaching experiences, I’ve learned to support students. Many came from non-Christian backgrounds, so I witnessed through my actions.  I encouraged the students to pursue their goals and passions, so they can build confidence in forming their identity. I hoped that I would love them as Christ calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves.

I am grateful for Wheaton’s professors and the Center for Vocation and Career (CVC). Their advice and words of encouragement have helped prepare me to live out my faith in academic and vocational environments.
