Amanda Miller '22 - Chicago Has So Much To Offer

By: Amanda Miller '22

In my time at Wheaton. I’ve loved making the most of its proximity to Chicago. My first time visiting Symphony Center, where the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performs downtown, opened my eyes to the amazing resource that The Windy City is. World-class performances were available to us on a random Thursday night! As I’ve spent more time searching for jobs, I’ve really begun to appreciate the opportunities Chicago offers for not just culture or entertainment but employment as well. I can see how the connections I’m already forming with alumni and local businesses will provide me with plenty of options for where to work post-graduation. Handshake and LinkedIn, two hiring platforms that Wheaton uses, reveal an abundance of Chicago-based Wheaton alumni that span all disciplines. Many grads remain in the Chicagoland area after they finish their time at Wheaton, and thus can provide valuable assistance in the hiring process for local companies. These alumni can also help carry resumes directly to HR due to my developing personal connections with them through Handshake or LinkedIn. These Chicago connections will help me to secure employment or simply to grow in experience, and I know that the options they provide me are beyond valuable. Thanks to the amazing variety of jobs offered in the Chicagoland area, I’m certain that no matter what the future brings I’ll be successful.
