Apply to Wheaton as an International Student

Easy Steps to Apply

Wheaton welcomes students like you from all over the world. As an international student here, you’ll find your spiritual home and discover your God-given calling.

Here’s how to apply for admission as an international student. If you have questions, please contact one of our admissions counselors.

The application process depends on whether you’re applying to the College of Arts and Sciences or to the Conservatory of Music. Either way, you can apply using Wheaton’s own application or the Common App.

If your primary language is not English, please read our English Proficiency Requirements regarding demonstrating English Proficiency by exam or other ways.

Applicants from non-accredited secondary schools are required to submit a standardized test score for Fall 2024 admission and later. Standardized tests Wheaton College considers include the Scholastic Assessment Test of the College Entrance Examination Board (SAT), the American College Testing Assessment Program (ACT), or Classical Learning Test (CLT). Wheaton's code number is 1905 for the SAT; 1160 for the ACT. All test scores must be sent directly from the testing service or recorded on their high school transcript.

Secondary School Transcript:

Please ask your secondary school to send your official transcript (the record of your academic progress) to the Wheaton College admissions office through an official electronic transcript service, by postal mail, or by email. If your documents are not in English, you will need to provide an official English translation in addition to the original documents.

Secondary School Report (optional):

You may also ask your school official to send us this report, which describes your school's academic program, course offerings, graduate outcomes, and community.

University Records:

If you have taken or are taking university courses at a post-secondary institution, please submit those transcripts as well. To be considered official, all university transcripts, mark sheets, and certificates must:

  • Be sent directly from the university to the Wheaton College Admissions Office at 501 College Ave, Wheaton, IL 60187;
  • Bear the original signature of the university official;
  • Bear the official school seal. Notarized or certified copies are acceptable.

If your documents are not in English, you will need to provide an official English translation in addition to the original documents.

Contact us if you have questions about which documents you need to send. Important: If you have already earned a bachelor’s degree, contact us before applying.

International students are required to submit the International Financial Verification Form and corresponding financial documents as part of the application process. We use this information to determine your ability to fund your education at Wheaton College and to assess your qualifications for need-based international scholarships.

We’re committed to helping our students afford a Wheaton education. All international students are automatically considered for merit-based academic scholarships, and each year we award one full-tuition scholarship with room and board to a high-achieving international applicant with high financial need. For more information, see Cost and Financial Aid or email Student Financial Services.

English Proficiency Requirements

English proficiency requirements apply to all international applicants whose home language is not English, and who would study in the United States under an F-1 student visa.

Applicants may demonstrate English proficiency in the following ways:

  • Submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score. In recent years, admitted students have an Internet-based TOEFL score of 95-105 or higher, an IELTS Academic score of 7-8 or higher, or a Duolingo English Test score of 120-130 or higher.
  • If you have studied as a full-time student in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the British West Indies within the last two years, OR you have studied at an international school where the English language is the language of instruction within the last two years, you may request that we evaluate your high school records (transcripts) in lieu of submitting an English exam.  This evaluation is done case-by-case, and we may request a test result from you if we cannot conclusively determine English proficiency based on your school records. Please contact admissions@wheaton.edu to request your transcript be evaluated for meeting our English proficiency requirements.
  • If you are a native speaker of English and are a citizen of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the British West Indies, you are not required to submit the TOEFL exam, IELTS or Duolingo English Exam. Contact admissions@wheaton.edu to request that the English proficiency requirement be waived for your application.

Supported and Challenged at Wheaton

“Coming to Wheaton was a scary step to make as an international student... However, by God’s grace, I was encouraged by how the International Student Programs (ISP) immensely supported and challenged me throughout my freshman year.” - Eugene Bae, Junior
