How to Apply as an International Student

Rachel Lee Wheaton College IL student

While preparing to attend a college outside of your home country comes with its own challenges, we hope to make the application process to Wheaton College simple and straightforward.

Every applicant must submit test scores from the SAT, ACT, TOEFL or IELTS.  For international students whose native language is not English, these results will be used for the purpose of determining whether an applicant meets our English Proficiency Requirements.

School Records

A secondary school transcript is a record of your high school academic history.  It lists the classes or courses you took, when you took them, the grades or marks you received in each class, and which courses you are currently enrolled in.

Your transcript and, if applicable, any other official secondary school records, should be sent directly from your secondary school to the Wheaton College admissions office, either through an official electronic transcript service, by postal mail, or by official email correspondence to admissions@wheaton.edu.

If your documents are in a language other than English, an official English translation must be provided in addition to the official documents in the original language. Important: You may not submit a translation of the document which has been completed by you or a family member.

You may submit a Secondary School Report, completed by your school official. A High School profile or Secondary School Report is a document which describes a high school's academic program, course offerings, graduate outcomes and its community.  These are customarily completed in some contexts but are extremely uncommon in others.  For that reason, we do not require this submission.

Transfer applicants are required to submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, whether or not credit was earned or grades were received.

First-Year applicants who have taken or are taking university courses at a post-secondary institution should also submit transcripts.

To be considered official, all university transcripts, mark sheets, and certificates must:
(1) be sent directly from the university to the Wheaton College Admissions Office at 501 College Ave, Wheaton, IL 60187;
(2) bear the original signature of the university official;
(3) bear the official school seal. Notarized or certified copies are acceptable.

If your documents are in a language other than English an official English translation must be provided in addition to the official documents in the original language. Important: You may not submit a translation of the document which has been done by you or a family member.

If you have earned a certificate or diploma beyond the secondary level, please send us a certified copy.

Contact us at admissions@wheaton.edu if you have questions about which documents you need to send. Important: If you have already earned a bachelors degree, contact us before applying.

Financial Information

International students are required to submit the International Financial Verification Form and corresponding financial documents as a part of the application process.  This information is used to determine your ability to fund your education at Wheaton College as well as to assess a match to limited need-based international scholarships.

Every international applicant is fully considered for our merit-based academic scholarships.  In addition, the Wheaton College undergraduate admissions office awards one full tuition, room and board scholarship to a high-achieving, high-financial-need international applicant each year. Every international student applying for admission will also be considered for our presidential and international scholarships. No separate application is required to be considered for any of these funds. Learn more about international student scholarships with our International Student FAQs.
