Timothy Hooker M.A. '04 shares his experience at Wheaton and how it prepared him for his calling.

Why did you choose Wheaton?

I knew about Wheaton College Graduate School since my undergraduate days. However, I didn't feel called to a specific program until 2002. For both my calling and decision to attend Wheaton, it was a sense of personal calling. I knew without a doubt that God wanted me to study at Wheaton in the Intercultural Studies & TESOL program.

What skills have you learned from your program?
I can teach a much wider array of subjects now. Also, I've been able to mentor a number of newer teachers through the years as well. The TESOL program showed me how to teach grammar, pronunciation, writing, and reading in the practical sense. It also caused me to think much more critically, especially in regards to how to integrate my faith with my vocation. Since graduating from the TESOL program I've been able to work in three roles (two at universities in South Korea, one at a university in the US) since 2005. Those positions would not have been possible without the TESOL program.

What advice can you give for students who are also considering the M.A. Intercultural Studies & TESOL program at Wheaton College Graduate School?

Prayerfully consider where God wants you to go and what He wants you to study (i.e. Not everyone is called to grad school, but God will bless our faithfulness to Him in whatever He calls us to do.)
