Stephanie Gilsenan - Sundays at Saga

By: Stephanie Gilsenan '21

The best part of life at Wheaton to me is its people. While I’ve gone on many different adventures with friends, everyday conversations with students are what makes Wheaton so special. Because of this, Sundays are my favorite day at Wheaton. Between church in the morning and relaxing afternoons, the focus of Sunday is rest and fellowship.

As a Freshman at Wheaton, I found Sunday mornings were a natural way to meet friends. Through sharing shuttle bus rides to church with other Freshmen and going to brunch with my Fischer floormates, I formed relationships with new people, some of which became my closest friends.

Now, as a Junior at Wheaton, each Sunday morning, I go to church with a group of friends and then head back to saga, Wheaton’s dining hall, for brunch. Since Wheaton only has one dining hall, I not only get to have fellowship with the people I eat brunch with, but I also run into countless other people that I know. From small group friends to class acquaintances, I love being able to spend Sunday mornings with so many of the most important people in my life. It is during these Sunday brunches that I have both shed tears from laughing so hard and had meaningful conversations about friends’ lives and the world.

Usually, brunch is followed by afternoons spent relaxing with my roommates or going on walks at local parks. This time offers space to refresh myself for the week ahead and continue to form memories of these small, everyday moments that come from living life with so many incredible people.
