Sarah Danielson '23- Learning to Make a Difference

By: Meghan Kwong '23

When I visited campus as a prospective student, I attended a New Testament class where students asked hard questions about their faith and found answers. This experience was memorable to me because not only do I love learning, I also wrestled with the same questions. I was excited to finally be in a place where questioning was accepted and encouraged. As a current student, I’ve increasingly found that Wheaton students are curious about how Christianity functions in the cultural context of today. Moreover, Wheaton prepares and instills in students the desire to be passionate changemakers in society; it allows us to explore different fields and perspectives which help us relate to a greater number of people. Additionally, God being at the center of what we learn gives everything deeper meaning, and our passions and goals become part of our calling as Christians.

For example, learning about Imago Dei--what it means for human beings to be image-bearers of Christ--translated to a greater understanding in me of inherent human dignity and respect for others. This, in turn, instills in me passion regarding fixing systems of injustice within society, specifically regarding how the legal system treats vulnerable groups. Being a Christian not only entails existing in society but being an active participant in it. Thankfully, through the Christian liberal arts education at Wheaton, as well as the support of faculty and peers, I feel more capable and confident of making a difference. Wheaton is a great place to learn how to be a changemaker.
