Transfer Students
Mary Cyr - Finding Harmony at Wheaton
By: Eli Ouoba
As a college student, I decided to transfer to Wheaton in pursuit of its strong music program and supportive Conservatory community. Since then, I have been able to pursue meaningful connections with friends and professors and invest more in my study of French horn!
After several years in college, I became more serious about improving my technique and abilities on French horn. I had heard good things about the music professors at Wheaton, so one summer I decided to study with the horn professor. We had a great connection and I learned a lot. I also got to know several of the other music faculty. I told them my story, and they invited me to come to Wheaton so they could help me thrive! I realized that Wheaton had extensive resources for me to succeed musically.
The next summer, I worked at a fine arts camp and met a Wheaton student. We quickly became good friends. He introduced me to many Wheaton musicians, several of whom I made friends with. I never planned to transfer to Wheaton, but I began to crave a deeper college community. I decided to apply, and Wheaton generously offered me a music scholarship. I thanked God for this wonderful opportunity and took the leap.
Since transferring to Wheaton, I have advanced my performance on the French horn through challenging classes and stimulating lessons. I love being part of this open and inviting community of people who love and honor God!
