Kellie Mitchell '22 - Choosing My Major

I love to learn! When I was looking at different options for college, I knew that I wanted a school where academics was a valuable part of the campus environment for professors and students alike. At Wheaton, I often discuss what I am learning in class over lunch with friends or in my dorm with roommates. During my freshman year, my advisor asked if I knew what I wanted to major in. There were so many options the decision seemed impossible! Wheaton’s Christ at the Core curriculum allowed me to take many different classes: ranging from art history to environmental science. This helped me explore various options while making meaningful use of my time. I have found the Center for Vocation and Career (CVC) to be an excellent resource for me to explore my skills and discover what I might be interested in. One thing that was super helpful was the CVC’s event that offered a free Clifton strengths test. Recognizing my strengths helped me narrow down what I was hoping for in a career.  My first year, I took an Introduction to Anthropology class and absolutely loved it! By studying Anthropology  I have learned to combine strong academic writing and research skills with exploration of culture and society. I discovered a major that I love and received mentoring and encouragement from professors and alumni with tangible and unique experience in their field.
