Grace Zheng '22 - My Wheaton Education to My Vocation

Wheaton’s Center for Vocation and Career (CVC) has been the bridge that connects my  current learning to my future career. The CVC constantly gives me advice on applying for internships, writing resumes, preparing for interviews, and career opportunities.

I connected with the CVC after I went to an event that assessed my top 5 Clifton strengths. These strengths helped me develop ways to balance my skills and passions. My top strength (harmony) drew attention to my ability in connecting with diverse groups of people.  I work toward consensus by pointing out each person’s unique personalities and experiences. This strength encouraged me to continue pursuing my future career in elementary school teaching.

During the past 2 years, I have attended other CVC events that relate my Wheaton academic life to my future vocation. During an event called “Telling our Stories,” I learned unique ways to share my experiences by building a LinkedIn profile and networking with alumni. I developed most of these skills in classes at Wheaton.

Through Wheaton’s classes and the CVC, I have challenged myself to excel in academics, so I can diligently prepare to be an elementary school teacher. If my professors and CVC career coach did not encourage me to engage in conversations and take on leadership in classroom presentations or internships, I would not develop important skills to succeed in the marketplace.
