Amanda Miller- "Wheaton Helped Me Become Infinitely Employable"

By: Amanda Miller '22

My connection to Wheaton began in my public high school, where one of our most respected young teachers is a proud Wheaton grad. Although he wasn’t able to specifically speak about his faith much, something was always different about him. He was more invested in us than other teachers, went above and beyond to make us successful learners, and shared Biblical wisdom in discrete ways. He was my first example of what it looks like to be a well-educated, intelligent Christian in the workforce. I’ve learned in my time at Wheaton that these qualities aren’t unique to my old teacher, but also describe Wheaton grads wherever they work after graduation. The wide, though highly detailed, education that Wheaton offers means that students need not rely on one area of expertise for employment. This doesn’t mean that your major isn’t valuable, but that it is one of several areas of expertise you’ll grow at Wheaton. Throughout my college years, I’ve become increasingly confident that I have been trained to be hirable and will be an asset to any company after graduation. This means that I have no doubts about employment after Wheaton, thanks to the broad knowledge base, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that Wheaton has instilled in me. On a very practical level, Wheaton’s Center for Vocation and Career also helps students land internships that also provide even more experience and opportunities in the working world. This experience, paired with connections to local businesses and the city of Chicago, means that Wheaton students are well-prepared to land a job when they graduate.
