Frances J. White Scholars in Global Ministry and Frances J. White Scholarship for Mental Health and Ministry were established to financially support master's students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy degrees.
A Story of Servanthood
Born in Patterson, New Jersey, Frances J. White grew up in a multicultural environment, where she recognized God’s call to ministry. During her college years, Frances formed an Intervarsity Christian Fellowship chapter and embarked upon distinguishing between biblical absolutes and cultural relatives as she encountered diversity among committed Christians. Through her experiences, Frances understood it was her necessary preparation for worldwide counseling ministry.
Frances received a two-year training of French and African studies in Belgium and Switzerland before going to Africa and mentoring African students. For thirteen years, her priority had been mobilizing Christian students and training leaders of the groups by working with Africa Inland Mission and National University of Zaire (Now Congo).
Faculty Career at Wheaton
Frances returned from Africa and began a clinical internship where she found her passion in bringing emotional healing to others through psychotherapy. After her internship, Frances was invited by Dr. W. Norton, former dean of Wheaton College Graduate School, to teach counseling courses to missionaries-in-training. Frances nurtured future Christian clinicians and effective therapists, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton.
