The Certificate in Christian Camp Leadership provides a foundational understanding of camp and outdoor ministry through flexible, tailored learning aligned with students' vocational interests. The program is designed for entry-level and mid-level professionals and seasoned leaders transitioning into the field from other vocations. Based in the liberal arts tradition, this program seeks to prepare theologically grounded, spiritually maturing, practically skilled leaders for the Christian camping movement worldwide.
All students begin with the required core course, OAL 662 Theology and Practice of Outdoor Ministry, and then, in consultation with their advisor, can select additional courses aligned with their vocational interest areas. These focus areas are not prescribed but suggested. We offer four areas of leadership that are designed as pathways to equip students for their specific contexts and interests. To fulfill the certificate requirements, students can take any advisor-approved OAL course. In addition to classwork, students will gain hands-on experiences in their organization or through the mentored apprentice experiences typical of many camps nationwide.Although our students are spread across the country, they will be linked to a supportive, mission-driven cohort community. This certificate is more than a credential—it is an opportunity for holistic growth in a Christian environment.
