International English Proficiency

The following requirements apply to all international students and to permanent residents of the U.S. whose native language is not English.

Applicants can provide proof of English Proficiency by submitting one of the following:

  1. The student is a native English speaker and a citizen of United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or citizenship within the Commonwealth Caribbean.
  2. Provide an official transcript demonstrating a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university with a 3.0 or higher GPA in the US. Interview might be required.
  3. Provide an official course-by-course evaluation by WES, ECE, or SpanTran demonstrating a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university with a 3.0 or higher equivalent GPA in United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or a country in the Commonwealth Caribbean. Interview might be required.
  4. Provide official scores for either the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test, or Duolingo English Test and achieved the required score (official scores must be provided).

*Please note that a minimum score of 18 is required for each of the iBT categories (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing).

GRE is still required for all doctoral applicants.

If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo Englist Test. Scores must not be more than two years old.
