The Nineteenth Society hosted Dr. Chad Wellmon, Associate Professor of German Studies at the University of Virginia, for an evening lecture on September 22, 2016.
Dr. Wellmon is the author of two books: Organizing Enlightenment: Information Overload and the Invention of the Modern Research University (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2015) and Becoming Human: Romantic Anthropology and the Embodiment of Freedom (Penn State University Press, 2010). He is an expert on German literary and intellectual history, particularly in the Enlightenment and Romantic eras.
Dr. Wellmon's lecture addressed the subject of theology's place in the evolving structure of the research university in the nineteenth century.
