Students will attend a lecture during the morning, five times a week. Courses will be taught by professors from the arts, humanities, Bible/theology and social sciences.
Critical Literacy Seminar
After the lecture, scholars will participate in a discussion-based seminar to analyze reading assignments related to the lecture that day.
College Writing Seminar
Scholars will participate in a college writing class taught by a Wheaton College professor and BRIDGE staff. In this class, students will improve their writing mechanics and learn how to develop a college level essay.
Life Together
In the evenings, scholars will participate in community building activities which will include Bible studies, mentoring nights with program staff, game/sports nights, movie nights, etc.
Academic Benefits
During the summer, scholars will work on developing their critical thinking, writing, and reading skills. Scholars will practice:
- Writing effectively for various applications necessary for college success
- Reading critically with reasonable speed, comprehension, and recall
- Speaking clearly and with conviction, expressing both ideas and emotions
- Listening attentively and being able to understand the perspectives of others with differing views
- Thinking analytically and considering various ways to problem solve.
PLEASE NOTE: Scholars will not receive academic high school or college credit for participating in BRIDGE. However, a letter of recognition for program completion can be sent to the student and their high school guidance counselor if desired. This letter can be used as proof of completion and referred to in college applications.
