Student Health Services FAQs

We are located on the first floor of North Harrison Hall, Suite 130 (800 Centennial Dr, Ste. 130, Wheaton, IL 60187). Find us across from Fischer Residence Hall and on the north side of the tennis courts off of Harrison Street. Enter through the east doors.

We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. (Limited hours during holiday breaks)

Summer Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00am to 3:00pm. (Limited medical providers available)

Students do not need an appointment to see a Student Health Services (SHS) nurse, but it is highly recommended. An appointment is necessary to see a SHS medical provider (MD, NP).

The services of the Wheaton College SHS are available to all actively enrolled students regardless of your health insurance coverage. Learn more about health insurance

Graduating students may continue to visit Student Health Services for 1 week after graduation. Due to liability and billing practices, SHS cannot continue care past this time. We are happy to assist you in finding excellent community care if needed.

Student Health Services (SHS) permanently maintains patient records on their Northwestern Medicine MyChart account.

SHS has an International Travel Clinic that provides consultations and immunizations for Wheaton College sponsored trips or for personal travel. Please fill out the Traveler's Intake form from GPS and send it to the travel nurse, then wait to hear back from her on whether you need to make a travel consultation appointment.

Student Health Services does not provide medical excuses for students who have missed classes, exams, or due dates for papers or projects. Our reasons include our commitment to patient confidentiality, our role in educating students about appropriate use of health care, our concern for furthering the developmental transitions of young adulthood, our lack of direct knowledge about illness or injuries effectively managed by self care, and our own finite resources.

After every visit to SHS, all students will be given an after-visit summary. A notice of absence will be sent to professors only for select prolonged illnesses, while a chapel excuse will be sent out only following hospitalization or allergy injections.

While many services at SHS are free of cost, many also have charges. For all charges incurred at SHS you will receive an itemized Explanation of Charges statement in your CPO box following your visit. In the meantime, all charges will be transferred to your Wheaton College Student Account for payment in full. You may be eligible to receive reimbursement from your health insurance company or medical flex spend account. For instructions about submitting your claims, please contact your insurance company. The Explanation of Charges statement received in your CPO is an itemized list of charges that can be submitted to your health insurance company. All charges are payable to Student Accounts. Student Health Services does not bill insurance companies.
