Paul Chelsen, Ph.D.

In January 2009, Dr. Chelsen was appointed Wheaton’s third Vice President for Student Development (since 1969). Prior to this appointment, he served for 10 years in Wheaton’s Student Development Division as the Director of Residence Life. Prior to his work at Wheaton, Paul served in various Student Development roles at Ball State University, Coe College, North Central College (IL), and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Asking questions and listening is important to Paul. He is a collaborative problem solver.
College was an important time of growth and development for Paul. He is excited about investing in the growth and development of today’s generation of Wheaton students.
Paul’s strengths are: Responsibility, Connectedness, Restorative, Developer, and Empathy. Paul is process- and people-oriented, with a passion for fostering a learning environment outside the classroom in partnership with Wheaton College Faculty.
