Oliver Davis is excited to be returning to the apartment Res Life team as a second year GRA. He grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, and later majored in Kinesiology and minored in Psychology at Azusa Pacific University in California. He had opportunities there to start to develop a love for working with college students and helping them learn to navigate the challenges that come with being a young Christian adult in the modern world. After college Oliver spent two years in Ecuador working for Living and Learning International as a Resident Coordinator, where he was blessed with the opportunity to mentor and disciple college students who were spending the semester abroad. He is excited to continue that journey at Wheaton in the HESD program. When not working or completing assignments, Oliver likes to play sports (primarily soccer), spend time with friends and family, or read a good book!

Joy Chilala is excited to be at Wheaton and is looking forward to serving students and being part of a team of like-minded people. She was born in Zambia and moved to Michigan in 2019 to study social work at Cornerstone University. Joy loves building community by being hospitable to others who both share and don't share similar beliefs. Her desire to be in student development became evident in undergrad as she served as a Resident Assistant for two years and as a diversity intern. Joy desires to see students open up their dorms and apartments to other students who do not feel welcomed as it is part of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. In her free time, Joy loves going on walks, playing card games, trying out new food and going to new places.

Desteni Battle
Saint and Elliott Apartments
UC Berkley
B.A., History
Wheaton College Graduate School
M.A., Higher Education and Student Development, in progress
Desteni Battle joins Wheaton College as a first year GRA pursuing her masters in Higher Education and Student Development. She was born and raised in Fresno, CA. Living in a generation where the Gospel of Jesus Christ has become foreign to the hearts of our most vulnerable, youth and emerging adults, she believes this is the new mission field. By the incredible grace of God, this prodigal returned to the Lord, was completely restored and now desires to become equipped in spirit, soul and body to be sent out on mission for Christ. Desteni looks forward to living, loving and learning in the Wheaton community and getting rooted in the local church, which has a special place in her heart. In the margins of life, she enjoys being active (running, cycling), reading, writing, singing, good conversations with family and friends and scenic drives. She finds comfort in Hosea 11:4, which says, “I led them with human cords, with ropes of love. To them I was like one who eases the yoke from their jaws; I bent down to give them food.” Joyfully responding, “Oh how He’s led me, and to what a place we have arrived.” Desteni eagerly awaits all the Lord will do and teach her, here at Wheaton.
