Smith-Traber Hall: A Vibrant Freshman and Sophomore Community
For nearly 60 years, Smith-Traber Hall has welcomed Wheaton College freshmen and sophomores into a Christ-centered, residential learning environment.
About Smith Hall (Women)
Built in 1961, Smith Hall houses freshman and sophomore women and stands on the former site of President Charles A. Blanchard’s home. It was named in honor of Corinne Smith who was part of Wheaton faculty from 1929 until her retirement in 1961. During those years she held the positions of Dean of Women, Instructor of Music, and Housemother of Williston Hall.
About Traber Hall (Men)
Traber Hall, originally know just as "The Tower," was the tallest building in the city of Wheaton when it was built in 1970. Originally intended to house women, it was decided that the new hall would house men when Fischer Hall became the residence hall for both men and women. The building was named in 1972 for former trustee George M. Traber. Like Smith Hall, this building sits on the site of President Charles A. Blanchard's home.
