Crew

Wheaton College Crew

Wheaton Crew is a club sport at Wheaton College established in 1989 to promote a healthy competitive environment for students looking to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. Coached by 1978 World Lightweights Rower Gary Bohlin, Wheaton Crew rows on the Fox River in St. Charles, IL from August-November and March-May.

Wheaton Crew is an official member of the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Great Lakes Region and competes in both the Fall (Head Races) and Spring (2km sprints) seasons in renowned regattas including Dad Vail, John Hunter Regatta, Head of the Hooch and the Head of the Charles Regatta.

Recruitment

Wheaton currently recruits rowers, coxswains and students to race in Varsity/Novice 4's and 8's. Wheaton Crew trains during the off-season with ergometers, circuit training and weights while not on the water from Thanksgiving through Spring Break.

Our crew is made up of high school rowers, athletes, ROTC cadets, and students with no experience in sport alike. Tryouts happen during recruitment week at the beginning of fall and spring semesters and require recruits to past a mandatory swim test and a 2K Erg Trial. Wheaton Crew is unique in creating a space for students from all backgrounds to engage in a rigorous athletic activity while fostering some of the closest community on campus.
