Welcome to the Academic Advising Office
The Academic Advising Office serves undergraduate and graduate students from their first registration period through graduation. In collaboration with Faculty Academic Advisors, the staff Academic Advisors provide coaching and resources to students to support academic success.
Academic advising at Wheaton College is a collaborative effort. Learn how the different roles fit together below.
- Actively reaches out for assistance from appropriate advisors
- Learns academic program requirements & tools that aid with planning
- Takes responsibility & makes decisions for his/her academic path
- Prepares for discussions with advisors by formulating a list of plans, question & goals
Faculty Advisors are the primary advisors for student questions and guidance in academic programs.
Undergraduate:
- Serves as a First-Year Advisor for first-year and transfer students exploring majors
- Assigned based on major & course study
- Expert in discipline & requirements for major
- Resource for professional goals, graduate school options, internships & networking
- Facilitates student's intellectual, social, emotional & spiritual growth
Graduate:
- Provide academic and professional guidance
- Main communicator of academic program directives and policies
- Answer questions regarding electives or non-required courses for programs of study
- Assist in monitoring students' official academic records and program progression via Degree Works
Undergraduate Students:
- Available to all students
- Specialize in transfer, international, and first-generation students connect with college resources
- Experts in Christ at the Core (CATC) general education requirements
- Clarifies policies & procedures for students
- Provides support for First-Year Students as they transition from Admissions to the first day of classes
- Stands in the gap for Faculty Advisors during summer terms
Graduate Students:
- Direct students to campus resources
- Clarifies policies & procedures for students, especially regarding transfer credit policies
- Serves as the main graduation analyst of the Graduate School
- Support faculty in answering nuanced issues
