Elizabeth Kapitaniuk, M.M.

Biography

Elizabeth Kapitaniuk is a clarinetist, conductor, music director, and educator who is passionate about positively impacting individuals and communities through compelling and collaborative musical experiences. She resides in the Chicagoland area where she works as a freelance clarinetist, clarinet instructor, and leader of church worship and music ministries.

Kapitaniuk is Principal Clarinet of the West Michigan Symphony and a regular member of member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago through 2026.  Additionally, she has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera and Joffrey Ballet Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Indiana Symphony Orchestra, Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and DuPage Symphony Orchestra. She is also a substitute musician for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. 

Kapitaniuk is the clarinet instructor at several high schools in the Chicagoland area and maintains a private studio. She has previously held positions of Director of Worship and Music at two different presbyterian churches and band director at Fischer Middle School in IPSD 204. She has served on the faculty of the Birch Creek Summer Music Festival and has worked as a substitute band director in elementary, middle school, and high school band programs throughout the Chicagoland suburbs.

Originally from Wheaton, IL, Kapitaniuk holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from DePaul University where she studied with Steve Williamson, principal clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
