Ivan J. Fahs Student Paper Competition
Wheaton College’s Anthropology, Sociology, & Urban Studies Department presents the Annual Ivan J. Fahs Student Paper Competition
Dr. Ivan Fahs, a Wheaton College Sociology professor for twenty years, was well known by his students and fellow faculty members for his bright smile and enjoyable personality. He showed love to everyone by listening to their stories with a compassionate heart. While teaching, Dr. Fahs pushed his students to work hard in their studies through projects and scholarships, but most importantly, he wanted them to work for the glory of God.
Deadline: Friday, March 20, 2026
Format and Submission
- Papers should employ rigorous social science thinking. Though they need not be explicitly rooted in anthropology, sociology, or urban studies, the criteria by which entries are evaluated will include ways the papers connect to anthropology, sociology, or urban studies in method, theory, or application.
- Papers should reflect substantive research and analysis. These may be original research or analytical reviews of a secondary literature. Papers may be multi-authored.
- Names should not be included on paper submissions. Instead, the author’s student ID number should be included above the title of the work.
- Submissions should be kept under 20 pages in length.
- Your submitted manuscript should be submitted through the JotForm linked above.
- Submission must be from an undergraduate student currently enrolled at Wheaton College. No paper that has been previously published will be considered.
- The Anthropology, Sociology, and Urban Studies Department reserves the right to use any prize-winning paper for publication or promotional purposes.
- Winning papers will be selected by the department chair, based on recommendations from the Anthropology, Sociology, and Urban Studies faculty.
