Celebrating Faculty Legacy

In February, the Board of Trustees approved the following faculty members for promotion, tenure, or emeritus status. Four emeriti have left a profound impact on students, staff, alumni, friends of the College, and their peers throughout their many combined decades of service.

Dr. Seth W. Norton, Professor of Business and Economics Emeritus

Professor of Business and Economics Emeritus
(30 years of service, 1995–2025)

Dr. Seth Norton, the Carl R. Hendrickson Distinguished Chair in Business, has a broad teaching background, including American government, finance, marketing, and business strategy. With a diverse research record in business and economics, legal studies, and public policy, he has contributed scholarship in government regulation, franchising, telecommunications, and world poverty. Norton serves as secretary-treasurer on the executive board of the Western Economics Association International. From 1996–2008, Norton was head wrestling coach at Wheaton, and was later inducted to the Hall of Fame of the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Class of 2020.

Professor Gregory Halvorsen Schreck
Associate Professor of Art Emeritus
(36 years of service, 1989–2025)

Professor Gregory Schreck is an artist and a photographer with expertise ranging from analog photography to art in the church. Schreck creates projects connected to his Christian faith, some of which have involved collaboration with designers, church and community groups, and even a physicist. His analog and digital photography classes at Wheaton incorporated artistic, documentary, and community-based approaches. Throughout his 36 years as faculty, he also taught art history and film classes. Schreck’s courses and projects reflected his passions, which include portraiture, indigenous human rights, environmental issues, and digital experimentation.


Wheaton College IL Richard Schultz Old Testament Professor Emeritus

Professor of Old Testament Emeritus
(30 years of service, 1995–2025)

After teaching in Germany for a decade, Dr. Richard Schultz joined Wheaton’s Department of Biblical and Theological Studies, later becoming department chair. Schultz also served as the first holder of Wheaton’s Armerding Chair for 17 years, during which his mission was to foster a love for the Bible and to articulate and defend the College’s doctrinal affirmation of the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. He was named Blanchard Professor of Old Testament in 2012. Exuding a great passion for the Old Testament, Schultz taught undergraduate and graduate courses, in addition to serving as a Ph.D. supervisor and second reader.


Dr. Dana Townsend Applied Health Science Professor Emerita

Associate Professor of Applied Health Science Emerita
(13 years of service, 2012–2025)

Before Wheaton, Dr. Dana Townsend spent 15 years teaching at Kansas State University, while simultaneously beginning her doctoral program, finishing her Ph.D. in physiology, and teaching at Kansas University School of Medicine. A recipient of a Wheaton Junior Faculty Achievement Award, Townsend established credibility as an educator invested in developing and implementing pedagogy that challenges and supports the growth of anatomy and physiology students. She has been privileged to be part of many students’ successful entrance into professional schools and has enjoyed mentoring undergraduate students in her research.
